Rey is now a Jedi Master.
In October, it was reported that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy had boarded a Star Wars project written by Damon Lindelof, who, as of recent news, has departed the project with the script set to be rewritten by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Obaid-Chinoy, who is a two-time Academy-Award-winning director in the Documentary Short category for her work on Saving Face and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness. Earlier this year, she directed two episodes of Ms. Marvel, on which we interviewed her.
During the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase during Star Wars Celebration, Obaid-Chinoy took to the stage to provide more information on her Star Wars project and made a major announcement in the process. Initially, Obaid-Chinoy discussed the premise of the film, which is set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. The film will follow Rey (Daisy Ridley), now a Jedi Master, as she begins to rebuild the Jedi Order. At this time, there is no confirmation that any other actors from the Sequel Trilogy will reprise their roles in this film, but it’s not out of the question. The project marks new milestones for the Star Wars franchise, as Obaid-Chinoy is the first woman and person of color to direct a Star Wars feature.
