First 'Five Nights At Freddy's' Teaser Turns The Iconic Horror Game Into A Movie
In 2014, the first Five Nights at Freddy’s video game was released, instantly becoming a sensation, striking fear and finding its audiences with fans of all ages. I discovered the game in—wow, this hurts to say— first grade, and for some reason, even though it was likely one of the scariest things young me had ever done, I couldn’t put it down.
Flash forward to 2023 — nine years, nine video games, and millions of views later —, Blumhouse has teamed up with Universal to release their theatrical adaptation of the film, and the first teaser is out.
The film follows Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson), the newest security guard at Freddy Fazbear’s, a Chuck E. Cheese-style restaurant —talking animatronics and all— where, in the ’80s, several children went missing. In the present day, it’s a run-down, unpopular pizzeria with rumors of animatronics coming to life at night and attacking the security guards.
The film’s main animatronics are the titular Freddy Fazbear, as well as his accomplices Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy. The poster also confirms the appearance of the cupcake animatronic, called, well, The Cupcake.
Five Nights at Freddy’s stars Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, Mary Stuart Materson, Piper Rubio, and Kat Conner Sterling. The film releases in theaters and on Peacock on October 27. Watch the film’s first teaser below.
