Following Oppenheimer’s success not only at the box office but at the Academy Awards, Paramount Pictures is set to re-release Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar in theaters this fall.

Interstellar, which was released 10 years ago this October, is, broadly, a film about the potential extinction of the human race and the push for survival, with a story of family and love at its core.

The film made over $700 million during its initial release and received five Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Visual Effects. When released in 2014, the film was the longest to get a 70mm IMAX release, with film platters needing extended to hold the celluloid prints. Further extensions were needed for the 30 prints of Nolan’s 3-hour Oppenheimer.

Interstellar’s upcoming theatrical re-release includes premium large formats, including 70mm, IMAX, and IMAX 70mm. It is unknown if new celluloid prints will be struck or if the original 2014 prints will be shown again. Roughly 70 minutes out of the 169-minute runtime of Interstellar will be shown in full 1.43:1 aspect ratio in theaters projecting the photochemical version of the film, as well as certain dual-laser IMAX theaters.

The IMAX format has seen a resurgence in the last year following Oppenheimer’s success, with Dune: Part Two getting a full release that included IMAX 70mm film prints being made, though the film was shot entirely digitally. This did, however, include select sequences in the 1.43:1 aspect ratio, opened up from the 1.90:1 aspect ratio for the rest of the film.

An IMAX representative confirmed earlier this week that Joker: Folie à Deux will get IMAX 70mm film prints, though the film was shot digitally and will have a constant aspect ratio of 1.90:1 throughout the entire film.

Though he just received a coveted Best Director Oscar for Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan has reportedly begun writing his next feature. Nolan has declined to comment on any future plans at this time.

Interstellar will return to theaters this fall.
