Netflix Gives Release Dates To 2023 Film Slate

Netflix is continuing their expansion into feature-length releases in 2023, with over 15 original films hitting the streaming service over the course of the year. With films ranging from spy-thrillers to comedies, here are the newly announced dates.

You People — January 27

With a stacked cast of comedy legends ranging from Eddie Murphy to Julia-Louis Dreyfus, You People will undoubtedly be one of the funnier originals this year. The film is written by Kenya Barris and Jonah Hill, with the latter starring in the film as well.

Your Place Or Mine — February 10

Your Place Or Mine follows Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher), best friends and polar opposites. The film sees them swapping houses in Los Angeles and New York, realizing that the lives they crave may not be what they need.

Luther: The Fallen Sun — March 10

Idris Elba will lead the reimagined television series turned into a sequel film as detective John Luther. Luther finds himself in jail, haunted by his failure to capture the psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.

Murder Mystery 2 — March 31

The sequel to Murder Mystery (2019), Murder Mystery 2 picks back up with Nick (Adam Sandler) and Audrey (Jennifer Aniston) struggling to get their P.I. detective agency up and running. It’s then that they find themselves in the middle of an international affair when their friend is kidnapped at his own wedding.

The Mother — May 12

The Mother stars Jennifer Lopez as the titular character, an assassin coming out of hiding to protect her daughter she left earlier in life.

Extraction 2 — June 16

Chris Hemsworth returns in the Sam Hargrave-directed film written and produced by the Russo Brothers. Hemsworth is tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless gangster from the prison where they are being held.

They Cloned Tyrone — July 21

Not much is known about They Cloned Tyrone aside from the official logline, reading, “A series of eerie events thrusts an unlikely trio (Boyega, Foxx and Parris) onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy in this pulpy mystery caper.”

Heart Of Stone — August 11

Heart of Stone stars Gal Gadot as Rachel Stone in the Mission: Impossible-esque spy thriller. The film is written by Greg Rucka and Allison Schroeder and directed by Tom Harper. Additionally, the film also stars Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt.

Lift - August 25

Starring Kevin Hart, Lift follows an international heist crew that is recruited to prevent a terrorist attack and must pull off the heist on a plane mid-flight. The film also includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Worthington, and Vincent D’Onofrio, and is directed by F. Gary Gray.

Damsel — October 13

Damsel follows a dutiful damsel (Millie Bobby Brown) that agrees to marry a handsome prince, only to find the royal family has recruited her as a sacrifice to repay an ancient debt. Thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon, she must rely on her wits and will to survive. The film also stars Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter, Ray Winstone, and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

Pain Hustlers — October 27

Upon losing her job, a blue-collar woman (Emily Blunt), struggling to raise her daughter, takes a job at a failing pharmaceutical start-up, only to get involved in a dangerous racketeering scheme. Pain Hustlers also stars Chris Evans, Andy Garcia, Catherine O’Hara, Jay Duplass, Brian d’Arcy James, and Chloe Coleman.

The Killer — November 10

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, David Fincher adapts The Killer, with Michael Fassbender in the lead role. The film follows a ruthless assassin battling his employers and himself, while on a global manhunt he insists is anything but personal.

A Family Affair — November 17

When a surprising romance brings consequences for a young woman (Joey King), her mother (Nicole Kidman), and her movie star boss (Zac Efron) as they face the complications of love, sex, and identity. Additionally, the film is directed by Richard LaGravenese (Beautiful CreaturesP.S., I Love You).

Leo — November 22

Previously at STX Entertainment, Netflix picked up Leo, a coming-of-age animated comedy starring Adam Sandler in the lead role. The film is helmed by Robert Smigel, Robert Marianetti, and David Wachtenheim, and has a major supporting cast, including Bill Burr, Cecily Strong, Rob Schneider, Jo Koy, and other familiar faces (voices).

Leave the World Behind — December 8

Based on the novel by Rumaan Alam, Leave the World Behind follows a family vacation on Long Island that is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout. As the threat grows, both families must decide how best to survive while dealing white existential crises.

Rebel Moon — December 22

The highly-anticipated film by Zack Snyder will finally hit Netflix on December 22. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s iconic Seven SamuraiRebel Moon is a ballad of galactic resistance. The film’s stacked cast includes Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, and more.
