'The Bad Batch' To End With Third Season

It’s over, brothers.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the end of the road for Clone Force 99. During the series’ panel on the final day of Star Wars Celebration, it was announced that The Bad Batch had been renewed for a third and final season. Head writer Jennifer Corbett broke the news by saying, “The story’s not over… The Bad Batch will be back for a third and final season.” The show’s second season came to a close on March 29 with a two-part finale titled The Summit and Plan 99, respectively. The series’ leading characters (except for two exceptions) first appeared in the final season of The Clone Wars and were met with a warm enough reception for Lucasfilm executives to grant them their own series, which premiered on May 4, 2021.

Taking place during the fallout of Order 66 and the rise of the Empire, The Bad Batch follows a group of clones who, while deemed undesirable by the Kaminoans, each possess favorable genetic mutations, giving them skills that the bulk of clones don’t possess. The first episode found The Bad Batch reacting to the events of Order 66 and watching the clones that they fought with turn against the Jedi. Luckily for them (and the Jedi), the inhibitor chips inside their heads didn’t trigger due to their mutations, or so we thought. The series has also been a host for a number of cameos from characters in the Star Wars universe such as Fennec Shand, Captain Rex, Cad Bane, and Grand Moff Tarkin.

The Bad Batch’s third and final season will arrive on Disney+ in 2024.
