The dates for the 2023 AFI Film Festival have been announced, scheduling October 26-29, a week earlier in the year than the previous year. The 2022 AFI Fest, which took place from November 2-6, featured the US premieres of films like The Fabelmans and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, as well as their shorts competition. In their press release, the festival confirmed that The Academy will recognize the 2023 film festival as a qualifying event for shorts in the live-action, animated, and documentary categories to be submitted for the 96th Oscars. In a statement earlier today, AFI President Bob Gazzalle said,

“We look forward to shining a proper light upon films from around the world that move us and to celebrating the artists that lead the way to a brighter future.”
