All The Announcements From The SDCC Panel Of 'The Sandman'

Netflix’s The Sandman had its highly anticipated SDCC panel earlier this afternoon, so here’s everything you missed, in a nutshell.

The panel began with a brief clip featuring David Thewlis’ character ordering a coffee, discussing personal matters. After that, we were introduced to our panel, featuring Neil Gaiman and the leading cast of The Sandman.

Each panelist briefly discussed their character, and different aspects of filming or getting into the role and Gaiman talked about his process of casting each character. One thing we did learn is that Patton Oswalt was cast before producers had signed on and before he himself even knew.

Following this, the panel audience viewed the second of three exclusive clips from the show, only displayed at this panel before the series debut. This clip was from episode 3, and featured Joanna Constantine sending a demon back to Hell in the middle of a wedding.

After talking more about the process of creating the show and adapting such an iconic comic series, we viewed our last exclusive clip from the panel. This clip was from episode 6, and featured Dream and Death on a park bench, as Dream says, "When they captured me, I just had one thought. Vengeance."

Some other tidbits of information were that Mark Hamill will voice Mervyn Pumpkinhead, similarly to the comic, the style of each episode is unique, Dave McKean created original credit illustrations for each episode, and the practical makeup and effects are amazing.

The panel ended with the world premiere of the new trailer for The Sandman, which is now on all social platforms. The Sandman streams on August 5th exclusively on Netflix.
