Apple Picks Up New John Carney Film 'Flora And Son' For $20 Million
The Sing Street director finds success in the same genre.
Apple Original Films has purchased John Carney (Sing Street)’s latest film, Flora And Son, for roughly 20 million dollars following its Sundance premiere. This is the second film to sell for around this price from this year’s Sundance, with the first being Fair Play, selling to Netflix. The film follows Flora (Eve Hewson), a struggling single mom who attempts to connect with her son (Oren Kinlan) through music. She develops a bond with her guitar teacher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), despite the fact that they live across the world from each other. Director John Carney is no stranger to the musical genre, having previously directed Sing Street and Once. The film received positive reviews after its premiere, with Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson praising Eve Hewson in the leading role. Read the film’s official synopsis below:
“Single mom Flora is at war with her teenage son, petty thief Max. Encouraged by the police to find Max a hobby, she rescues a beat-up guitar from a dumpster and finds that one person’s trash can be a family’s salvation.”
