D23 Studio Showcase Day 2 Recap (Marvel, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios)

By far the largest panel of D23, the Day 2 Studio Showcase brings major announcements from Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios. Read all the announcements now, in one place.

Lucasfilm:

Andor kicked off Lucasfilm’s entry into the panel, and with the cast on stage, debuted a final trailer for the show. Season one kicks off with a three episode premiere September 21 on Disney+. Additionally, Bix (Adria Arjona) has an on-again/off-again relationship with Cassian Andor, and Kyle Soller’s character is “someone you’ll love to hate.”

Willow then took the stage with a new poster and trailer. The series stars Warwick Davis, Christian Slater, and more. It premieres on Disney+ on November 30.
The Bad Batch season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 14, and is 16-episodes long.

Tales Of The Jedi then premiered is first trailer, giving us looks at young Dooku, Ahsoka, and more. The full series streams on Disney+ on October 26.

Skeleton Crew, directed by Jon Watts (Spider-Man “Home” trilogy), starring Jude Law has wrapped filming. The series doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but mid-late 2023 seems likely.

The Mandalorian took the stage next, with the entire cast appearing. Giancarlo Esposito touched upon the vulnerability of Moff Gideon, and how this is something we haven’t seen from the character yet. “Only you can supply yourself with the patience to find out what comes next.”

The first trailer for season 3 was released, but it is not the same trailer that was exclusively shown at Star Wars Celebration earlier this summer. Season 3 premieres February 2023 on Disney+.

Additionally, a first look at Indiana Jones 5 was shown to panel attendees. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have been involved with the project. Harrison Ford came on stage after the footage was shown and told the audience that this will be his final appearance as Indiana Jones. “This is it, I'm not falling down for you again!” - Harrison Ford.

Marvel Studios:

The Marvel segment kicked off with a live performance from Rodgers: The Musical, as seen in Hawkeye and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was up next, and Ryan Coogler premiered new footage and told audiences that the film is not yet finished. The footage showed a lot of Namor, including him fighting M’Baku. The film seems to focus on the world trying to capitalize on Wakandan resources while they’re at their weakest.

Ironheart followed, and with a new logo, the series will be executively produced by Ryan Coogler (Black Panther). Anthony Ramos has been confirmed to be playing The Hood in Ironheart, as he appeared on stage. Exclusive footage for the series was also shown. The series will explore the battle between tech and magic.

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania appeared next. The film is confirmed to be directly linked with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

“Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is unlike anything you’ve seen before from the Ant-Man, with the small characters doing something so big.” - Paul Rudd. Randall Park is also confirmed to appear as Jimmy Woo. New footage was shown, in which Kang holds Cassie Lang hostage while Scott Lang has to do a heist for him. Kang was shown in his full costume.

Werewolf By Night was officially confirmed, with Michael Giacchino (Composer, Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman) set to direct. It has been classified as a “Marvel Studios Special Presentation”. Gael Garcia Bernal is confirmed to star as the titular character, and Laura Donnelly will be the co-lead. A first look at the special was released, and the special releases October 7 on Disney+.

The first official trailer for Secret Invasion was released, and Don Cheadle appeared on stage to talk about Armor Wars. Armor Wars is set after Secret Invasion and filming will begin in 2023.

Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) has been cast in Loki season 2 as a TVA employee, which has already begun filming, and will release summer 2023. An exclusive look at season 2 was shown, and Kang (Johnathan Majors) was confirmed to appear.

Echo has wrapped filming, with Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) set to appear, with bandaged eyes after the events of Hawkeye.

Matt Shakman has been confirmed to replace Jon Watts as the director of Fantastic Four, but no casting announcements have been made.

Daredevil: Born Again begins filming next year, with an 18-episode first season. Charlie Cox said he’s excited to start again with “double the amount of time”.

Captain America: New World Order debuted a new logo, as they confirmed Tim Blake Nelson to return as The Leader, who’ll be the main villain of the film. Blake stated that “Marvel is part of cinema history. So to be coming back is an honor.”Additionally, Carl Lumbly will return as Isaiah Bradley and Danny Ramirez will return as Falcon. Director Julius Onah described the film as a “paranoid thriller”.

The first look at Thunderbolts was released, and the initial lineup appears to be Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), The White Wolf (Sebastian Stan), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The film begins filming early next year and will be directed by Jake Schrier.

Exclusive footage from The Marvels was shown, with director Nia DeCosta on stage, along with main cast Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris. Footage has been described as tension between Carol Danvers & Monica Rambeau, while Kamala Khan is the biggest fan ever, as she meets her heroes.

20th Century Studios:

James Cameron appeared via video to discuss the Avatar franchise. He announced that filming on Avatar 4 has begun. Audiences watched a few scenes from Avatar: The Way Of Water in 3D. Stephen Lang said that “You can’t keep a good marine down. He regrouped in hell.” Additionally, Sigourney Weaver will play one of Sully’s kids — “Only Jim is crazy enough to have written this character for me!”
