'Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny': Reactions Arrive After Six-Minute Cannes Ovation

It’s been 15 years since Indiana Jones was on the big screen, and it’s safe to say that audiences are ready for Harrison Ford to return as his most famous character. Unlike the previous four Indy movies, Dial of Destiny isn’t directed by Steven Spielberg, as James Mangold (Logan, Ford vs. Ferrari) takes the reins for the fifth and final entry into the franchise. The film follows Indy (Ford) and goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) as, once again, they’re in search of an artifact. In this case, it’s the mysterious (titular) Dial of Destiny. Joining the cast is Mads Mikkelsen as the film’s villain, Doctor Jürgen Voller, and Boyd Holbrook as his assistant Klaber.

Dial of Destiny had its world premiere earlier today at the Cannes Film Festival to great excitement from all lucky enough to be in the room. Ahead of the screening, Harrison Ford was surprised with an honorary Palmes d’Or, the same award given to Michael Douglass during this year’s opening night festivities in France. Ford was met with a warm reaction from the Cannes crowd, receiving a standing ovation before the film began, and a six-minute marathon of applause after the film concluded.

Following the premiere screening, early reactions to the film were released online. While they were few, full-length reviews from those in attendance are expected to release tonight, with more reactions and reviews releasing after tomorrow morning’s Cannes Press and Industry screening of the film. See some of the reactions to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny below:

In Lucasfilm’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” Harrison Ford returns as the legendary hero archaeologist, starring along with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (“Raiders of the Lost Ark”), Toby Jones (“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore”). Directed by James Mangold, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. John Williams, who has scored each Indy adventure since the original "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in 1981, has once again composed the score.” — Lucasfilm / Disney

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny arrives in theaters worldwide on June 30.
