‘Joker: Folie À Deux’ Sets IMAX Previews, 70mm IMAX Release

Joker: Folie À Deux, the sequel to 2019’s Oscar-winning Joker will preview in IMAX theaters on September 30, four days before its worldwide release, This Week Media can confirm.


Folie À Deux, which is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 4, finds Arthur Flex (Joaquin Phoenix) in Arkham Asylum following the events of the first film, where he meets Lee Quinzel (Lady Gaga, a new addition to the cast).

2019’s Joker, which received 11 Academy Award nominations — including a Best Actor win for Joaquin Phoenix — grossed over $1 billion, and remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time.

The film rounds out its supporting cast with Oscar nominees Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Catherine Keener (Get Out), alongside Zazie Beetz, returning to reprise her Joker role.


Joker: Folie À Deux features 54 minutes of footage in IMAX’s Expanded Aspect Ratio, providing up to 26% more image than in non-IMAX theaters. The film, shot on IMAX-certified Arri Alexa 65 and Arri Alexa LF cameras, will be presented in a 1.90:1 aspect ratio.

In select IMAX with Laser locations, Folie À Deux will be shown in a fully expanded 1.43:1 ratio, In addition, Joker: Folie À Deux will be presented in the IMAX 15/70mm film format in 11 select IMAX locations.


Following Folie À Deux’s Venice Premiere, the film will exclusively debut in domestic IMAX theaters on September 30 and will be released worldwide by Warner Bros. on October 4.
