American Cinematheque Unveils 2024 70mm Cinematheque Program
For film fans in Los Angeles, the American Cinematheque has become an integral part of the repertory theater scene, programming over 1,000 screenings each year and bringing in filmmakers to discuss their work.
On June 20th, the Cinematheque fully unveiled the 2024 program for their annual 70mm Cinematheque festival, featuring 37 films screening in their large-format photochemical versions at the Aero and Egyptian theaters from July 5 to August 4.
The festival will premiere a new 70mm restoration of Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, as well as a newly struck print of Vertigo. Classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Apocalypse Now will screen alongside newer releases like Oppenheimer, Licorice Pizza, and Ready Player One.
Opening night brings the American Cinematheque’s own 70mm print of 2001: A Space Odyssey to the Aero Theater, and the festival will close with an all-day marathon of four of Paul Thomas Anderson’s films — Licorice Pizza, The Master, Boogie Nights, and Inherent Vice — at the newly renovated Egyptian Theater.
