New 'Superman' Project Moving Forward Without Henry Cavill

Less than two months after the actor announced his official return as Superman, new DC Studios head James Gunn broke the news on Twitter earlier this evening. Gunn released the news as a part of an update thread, telling the world that he and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran have finalized their upcoming slate of films, and plan on providing more updates in early 2023.

Cavill released a statement addressing his departure from the iconic role in an Instagram post, saying,

“For those who have been by my side through the years… we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember… Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

Prior to the announcement of his departure from DC, Cavill announced that he would not be returning at the titular character in season four The Witcher, being replaced by Liam Hemsworth. The status of this casting is still unknown, and we will provide updates once we have further information.
